Minnesota has adopted statewide content standards in 10 learning areas. There are so-called “preparatory content standards,” which districts must document students’ completion of, as well as 48 high school content standards in the 10 learning areas. For high school graduation, every student must complete 21 of the 47 content standards in learning areas 1-9; however, world languages, learning area ten, is an elective for high school graduation.
