Comprehensive School Reform
Create a 21st Century Education Plan with input from the legislature, education leaders at all levels, local government, school boards, labor, teachers, parents and business leaders to address issues around finance, teaching quality and urban challenges.
School Districts
36 school districts is too many, the state will examine district consolidation.
Teaching Quality -- Induction and Mentoring
Support new teachers through mentoring and improve teacher training and support.
Teaching Quality -- Professional Development
Ensure that teachers are proficient in subject matter they teach.
Teaching Quality -- Evaluation
Develop a system to evaluate teacher performance, develop improvement plans and reward teachers who excel (especially in high need areas).
Leadership
Improve training and support for administrators, principals and superintendents.
Bilingual/ESL
Determine which teaching method works best for students who are learning to speak English, then devise one curriculum and allocate resources accordingly.
Charter Schools
Lift the moratorium on new charter schools.
Urban
Develop a parternship between the University of Rhode Island and the Central Falls School District to develop an Urban Academy at Central Falls High School. | |
