The Indian Education Act will require training for new teachers to prepare them to teach Indian students with the inclusion of Native American culture, language and traditions incorporated with existing curriculums
High School -- Dropout Rates/Graduation Rates
Improve the graduation rate of Native Americans students within the state.
Technology
Expand the South Dakota Classroom Connections laptop project and double the number of laptops from 5,000 to 10,000 next school year.
Distance Learning
Create the South Dakota Virtual High School.
Teaching Quality -- Professional Development
Create the Teacher Quality Enhancement program.
Teaching Quality -- Compensation
Raise teacher salaries through a compnesation assistance program ($4 million to be matched with $2 million from participating school districts).
High School -- Dropout Rates/Graduation Rates
Raise the dropout age to 18 years old.
Finance -- Resource Efficiency
Create a State Aid Study Task Force to study fund balances/fund balance penalties, capitol outlay, enrollment calculations, consolidation incentives and school size. | |
