PROPOSALS

School Improvement
-- Continue to transform low-performing schools through the Commissioner's Network - through intensive intervention, increased instruction time, and improved collaboration among teachers and administrators.

State Policymaking - Task Forces/Commissions
-- Create the Sandy Hook Advisory Commission to make specific, actionable recommendations in the areas of school safety, mental health services, and gun violence prevention.

Teacher Quality
-- Dedicate new resources to support teachers.

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Finance
-- Invested nearly $100 million in pre-k through high school, focusing on districts most in need.

P-3 - Preschool
-- Created 1,000 new school readiness openings statewide (seats for 1,000 more children).

School Improvement
-- Transformed four low-performing schools through the Commissioner's Network through intensive intervention, increased instruction time, and improved collaboration among teachers and administrators.

IdahoGovernor C.L. "Butch" Otter's State of the State Address
PROPOSALS

Finance
-- Increase K-12 funding in budget

State Policymaking - Task Forces - School Improvement
-- Assemble a broad cross-section of stakeholders to study the message voters sent (2012 propositions on ballot rejected by voters) and identify elements of school improvement on which there is broad agreement.

Postsecondary/Workforce Demands
-- Continue to create an aerospace center in Coeur d' Alene at North Idaho College to meet workforce demands of a growing industry in the Panhandle.
-- Continue development an industry certified software developer program at College of Western Idaho to help address a chronic shortage of qualified workers for the growing technology sector in Treasure Valley.
-- Continue to build an $8.5 million Applied Technology and Innovation Center.
-- Continue the establishment technology learning and innovation centers for teachers at the University of Idaho and Northwest Nazarene University.
-- Fund rural rotation training for each of the 24 participants in the Internal Medicine Residency program and Boise VA Medical Center.
-- Fund five additional seats in the WWAMI collaborative medical school program at the University of Washington, to go to students in the Targeted Rural and Under-Served Track or TRUST program.


ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Postsecondary/Workfoce Demans
-- Opened a Professional Technical Education Center in Tampa, belonging to College of Western Idaho.

New JerseyGovernor Chris Christie's State of the State Address
PROPOSALS

Finance
-- Invest $8.9 billion of state aid into education

ACCOMPLISHMENTS

Choice
-- Implemented inter-district school choice which has tripled enrollment in the last 3 years and will grow to 6,000 students next year.
-- Expanded the number of charter schools in NJ to 86.
-- Signed the Urban Hope Act to turn failing schools into renaissance Schools in Newark, Trenton, and Camden.

Postsecondary
-- Restructured higher education resulting in Rutgers being in the top 25 in research dollars and the newest member of the Big 10.
-- Made new capital investments in all NJ universities for the first time in 25 years.

State Policymaking - Task Forces
-- Created a task force that has helped NJ develop strategies for making New Jersey's institutions more competitive.

Teacher Issues - Compensation - Merit Pay
-- Finalized a teacher contract in Newark that acknowledges merit-pay.

Teacher Issues - Tenure
-- Reformed teacher tenure.

New YorkGovernor Andrew M. Cuomo's State of the State Address

PROPOSALS

State Policymaking-Commission/Teacher Evaluations/Accountability Systems
-- Appoint a bipartisan education commission to work with the legislature to recommend reforms for a meaningful teacher evaluation system and a school accountability system.

Postsecondary - Grant Funding
-- Expand NYSUNY2020 to the remaining 60 campuses, offering challenge grants to research centers for plans to connect academic excellence and economic development.

Workforce Development
-- Create the Office for New Americans to assist legal permanent residents, providing adult education and job training.

Civic Education
-- Implement the New New York Leaders Initiative to create opportunities for the state's next generation to dedicate their careers to public service.
- Student Intern Program - brings students into state government
- Empire State Fellows Program - full-time leadership training program that will prepare next generation professionals who are members of underrepresented groups for careers as New York State policymakers.

WyomingGovernor Matthew H. Mead's State of the State Address
PROPOSALS

Finance
-- Reduce budget for community colleges and the University by 6%.
-- Provide roughly $600 million for new schools over the next five years.

Postsecondary
-- Build a Tier I School of Engineering at UW.

Priorities
-- Focus on high school graduation rates, dual immersion language opportunities, charter schools, career technical education, and how to minimize the potential for school violence.

Teacher/School Personnel Compensation
-- Increase state employee salaries (incl. UW and community college personnel) by $8.5 million and offer one-time merit-based bonuses of $2.5 million.

-- Appointed a task force to help define what a Tier I university looks like in preparation for a new Tier I School of Engineering at UW.
