MISigned into law 09/2012P-12Beginning with the 2013-2014 school year, the board of a school district or intermediate school district or board of directors of a public school academy must ensure that an opportunity to recite the pledge of allegiance to the flag of the United States is offered each school day to all public school pupils in each public school it operates. OKSigned into law 04/2009P-12Directs each school district to adopt a policy, with grade-level-appropriate instructional levels, that assures that all students are encouraged, and have the opportunity, to read and study the founding documents of America that are pertinent to understanding the principles, character, and world view of America's founders, including documents that contributed to the foundation or maintenance of America's representative republican form of limited government, the Bill of Rights, our free-market economic system, and patriotism. Each school district is required to permit a principal or teacher to use, read, or post in a public school building, classroom, or at any public school event any excerpts or portions of the documents, writings, speeches, proclamations, or records relating to the history, heritage, or foundation of the United States or the State of Oklahoma including, but not limited to, the:
1. Mayflower Compact;
2. Declaration of Independence;
3. Constitutions of the United States and the State of Oklahoma;
4. Federalist Papers;
5. Pledge of Allegiance;
6. National anthem;
7. Presidential records and speeches;
8. Acts and published records of Congress; and
9. United States Supreme Court decisions and records.
School districts may not limit or restrain instruction in American or Oklahoma state history or heritage based on religious references in documents, writings, speeches, proclamations, or the materials. These and any other materials shall be used for educational purposes only and not to establish or promote any religion. States that students may voluntarily choose to read, write, share, report, or otherwise study a topic which is religious in nature provided other students are provided with the same opportunity to freely choose a topic.

MNSigned into law 05/2003P-12Effective 2003-04 school year and thereafter, requires recitation of the pledge of allegiance in all public schools, including charter schools, at least once a week. Allows a local board or charter school board of directors to waive this requirement by annual majority vote, and allows board waiving requirement to adopt district or school policy on recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance. Allows any student or teacher to opt out. Effective 2004-05 school year and thereafter, requires district or charter school that has a student handbook or school policy guide to include a statement that anyone wishing to opt out of recitation of the Pledge of Allegiance for any personal reasons may do so, and that students must respect another person's right to make that choice.

flag is displayed. Each district is encouraged to have a flag in each classroom and patriotic, fraternal, and other organizations or individuals
are encouraged to donate flags to schools to enable them to have the flag of the United States of America present in each classroom. Each
board is required to determine the appropriate time during the school day for the recitation of the pledge of allegiance. At the time designated for the recitation of the pledge of allegiance, students shall stand and recite the pledge of allegiance while facing the flag with their right hands over their hearts or in an appropriate salute if in uniform; provided, however, no student shall be compelled to recite the pledge of allegiance if the student or the student's parent or legal guardian objects on religious, philosophical or other grounds to the student participating in such exercise. Students who are thus exempt from reciting the pledge of allegiance shall remain quietly standing or sitting at their desks while others recite the pledge of allegiance and shall make no display that disrupts or distracts others who are reciting the pledge of allegiance. Teachers or other school staff who have religious, philosophical, or other grounds for objecting are likewise exempt from leading or participating in the exercise. If a teacher chooses not to lead the pledge, another suitable person shall be designated either by the teacher or principal to
