Student Nomads: Mobility in Ohio's Schools - Offering a rare contribution to student mobility research, "Student Nomads" is a massive (406 pages) look at student mobility in Ohio, but there is much to be learned by other states as well. Student mobility itself is massive in Ohio urban, suburban and rural settings. While some findings are distressing - families may have to move because of foreclosure or job loss - another big chunk involves moving from failing schools to successful schools; movement also is influenced by availability of charters, open enrollment, magnet and alternative schools. While this report gives a lot of information about the situation as it exists, it leaves recommendations on what to do about student mobility for future research.
