Kansas City Parents Talk About How to Improve Schools and What They Can Do to Help - Researchers surveyed parents of children in Kansas City Public Schools, which lost accreditation in 2012, to discover the degree to which parents are prepared to take on more active school roles. Parents were divided into three groups: potential transformers who said they would be comfortable serving on committees to decide school policies, but who had yet to act; school helpers who already volunteered at their children’s schools but in more traditional ways; and help seekers who were most dissatisfied with schools yet were present in the schools.
