Effectiveness of Cognitive Tutor Algebra I at Scale - Researchers compared the effectiveness of a technology-based algebra curriculum, Cognitive Tutor Algebra I (CTAI), with a traditional algebra curriculum. Using a wide variety of matched middle schools and high schools in seven states, they found no effects the first year of CTAI which uses a personalized, mastery-learning, blended-learning approach. However, there was strong evidence of a positive effect in the second year. High schools had a statistically significant effect, but middle schools didn't. (John F. Pane, Beth Ann Griffin, Daniel F.
