Standards: When Students Get Behind MS Word - The movement to set state education standards has an often-overlooked flip side — what happens to students who get behind or fail to meet the standards? While some states have policies that address enforcing and upholding standards, most states do not, or fail to fund such efforts. The consequences of tolerating student failure are even more costly in the long run, ranging from increased dropout rates to graduating functional illiterates to a weakened national workforce.
