Document Number: 2564 Discipline Procedures for Students with Disabilities - In response to the 1997 reauthorization of the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA), as well as recent state legislation on school safety, this guide provides technical assistance regarding the discipline of students with disabilities in accordance with laws of the State of New York, as well as interpretations of federal law. It provides an overview of the disciplinary process, guidelines for assessing and addressing behaviors, functional behavior assessments and intervention plans. The relationship between a student’s disability and behavior figures prominently into the picture and is presented.
