Document Number: 2823 Southwest Educational Development Laboratory's (SEDL) Reading Resources - SEDL has developed a collection of resources designed to help reading teachers develop a richer understanding of current reading research, easily find information about reading assessment, and use research and assessment information to inform their instructional practice. Cognitive Foundations of Learning to Read: A Framework, provides detailed information on the steps children go through when they're learning to read. The site also includes a searchable database, which aligns the K-2 reading standards for the five states in the SEDL region to the Cognitive Framework of Reading Comprehension. The database is intended to provide valuable connections between state mandates regarding reading competence and research on the cognitive elements developing within the young reader.
