The Shortage of Principals Continues - In this "Principals' Perspective" column, the executive directors of NAESP (National Association of Elementary School Principals) and NASSP (National Association of Secondary School Principals explore the current principal shortage that states nationwide are reporting. The authors submit that taking on a principalship requires more hours and sometimes less pay and job security than being a teacher. In an effort to resolve the problem, NAESP and NASSP lobby for federal professional development funds, initiate rigorous teaching standards and encourage others to use creative approaches to the developing, training and hiring of principals.
