Urban School Superintendents: Characteristics, Tenure and Salary - This third biennial report from the Council of the Great City Schools (CGCS) contains results of a survey on urban superintendents; 1997 and 1999 survey results also are provided as comparisons. The data indicate that the average tenure of a major city school district is now 2 1/2 years, up from 2 1/3 years in 1999. The report also shows that salaries for urban superintendents have increased over the last several years as demand has risen. (CGCS, Urban Indicator, Volume 6, No. 1, October 2001)...
