Document Number: 4237The Civic Mission of Schools - For the first time, a group of more than 50 scholars and practitioners has offered a consensus on how to expand and create more effective civic education programs. This report calls on policymakers to hold schools accountable for teaching civics and to reexamine existing state academic standards to ensure there is a civics education curriculum at each grade level. Recommendations for state policymakers include providing financial incentives and rewards to schools and educators with exemplary civic education curricula, promoting standards for civic education, and working within national organizations to promote civic education in all states.
