Equality of Educational Opportunity (Coleman) Study (EEOS) - This is the seminal 1966 study conducted in response to the 1964 Civil Rights Act, to determine the degree to which equal educational opportunities were available to students across boundaries of race, religion and national origin in a nationwide sample. The analysis of student demographic data as well as student academic goals and attitudes drew the now oft-quoted conclusion that student achievement is influenced more by a student and school's socioeconomic circumstances than by school quality.
