Document Number: 5087 Profiles of For-Profit Education Management Companies, Sixth Annual Report, 2003-2004 - According to this study, there were 463 public schools being operated by 51 for-profit management companies in 28 states as of the 2003-04 school year. The study also found that 81% of these schools are charter schools and that Michigan and Arizona have the most schools managed by for-profit companies.
