Document Number: 5540 Report on the Implementation of the Gun-Free Schools Act in the States and Outlying Areas - The Gun-Free Schools Act requires states to report information about the implementation of the act annually to the U.S. secretary of education. The U.S. Department of Education requires each state to submit an annual report that provides: (1) the number of students expelled; (2) the number of expulsions modified on a case-by-case basis; (3) the number of modified cases that were not for students with disabilities; and (4) the number of expelled students referred to an alternative school or program.
