Document Number: 5745 Quality Teaching in Kentucky: A Progress Report - This report reviews the status of the major quality teaching initiatives undertaken in Kentucky in recent years, as well as the work that remains to be done. Areas of focus in the report include teacher compensation, teacher education/preparation, teacher recruitment and retention, and teacher professional development. According to the report, more professional development in Kentucky is focused on classroom content than was previously the case, and state teacher standards—for both new and veteran teachers—are aligned with national standards. A three-page executive summary also is available. (Prichard Committee for Academic Excellence, for the National Commission on Teaching for America’s Future, November 2004)...
