Survey of the States: Economic and Personal Finance Education in Our Nationís Schools in 2004 - Financial literacy is an essential skill and the challenge of teaching it is being met in different ways in different states. The fourth biennial survey on the state of economic and personal finance education, this report finds that slow but steady progress continues to be made in getting states to recognize the importance of economic and personal finance education, and identifies two remaining key challenges: encouraging (1) states to be more rigorous in setting requirements for both student graduation and teacher certification and (2) the federal government to be supportive of economic and personal finance education in creating a true "ownership society." The report also provides 50-state information on economics and personal finance education requirements. (National Council on Economic Education, March 2005)...
