Document Number: 6193 Improving Academic Achievement in Urban Districts: What State Policymakers Can Do - The 100 largest urban school districts serve nearly a quarter of this nation’s students – including 40% of all non-white students and 30% of students from low-income families – and they have historically been at the lowest end of the achievement spectrum. Improving urban education is an imperative for the successful future of the United States.
