Document Number: 6387 The Nation's Report Card: Reading 2003 - This report presents results of the National Assessment of Educational Progress 2003 4th-and 8th-grade reading assessments. Results are disaggregated by a number of factors, including race, gender, geographic location, highest level of parents' education, type of school and eligibility for free or reduced price lunch. The report finds no measurable difference between the average 4th-grade reading score in 2003 and 1992. The average 8th-grade reading score decreased by one point between 2002 and 2003, although it still remained higher than in 1992. (Patricia L. Donahue, Mary C. Daane and Ying Jin, National Center for Education Statistics, July 2005)...
