From Kindergarten through Third Grade: Children’s Beginning School Experiences - This report examines children’s early literacy and resources at the start of kindergarten to their reading and math achievement at the end of 3rd grade. The study provides information about how children’s skills and knowledge differ based on race/ethnicity, family risk factors, public versus private school, length of kindergarten day, perceptions of interest and competence in subject areas, socialization and problem behaviors. This report uses the Early Childhood Longitudinal Study-Kindergarten Class of 1998-99 dataset that collected data on children entering kindergarten in 1998-99 and followed them through the current school year.
