Document Number: 6565 Growing by Degrees: Online Education in the United States, 2005 - This is the Sloan Consortium's third annual report on the state of online education in U.S. higher education. The reports are aimed at answering some of the fundamental questions about the nature and extent of online education in the United States. Among the report's findings: (1) almost two-thirds of all schools offering face-to-face courses also offer online courses, and more than 40% of schools offering master's degree programs also offer these programs online; (2) the overall growth rate of online enrollment between Fall 2003 and Fall 2004 was 18.2%; and (3) an increasing majority of most types of schools see online education as key to their long-term strategy.
