Higher Education in Pennsylvania: A Competitive Asset for Communities - States are increasingly turning to postsecondary education to help improve their economies and the overall quality of life for their citizens. This report from the Brookings Institution summarizes activities of higher education institutions in Pennsylvania and examines their role in the community and economic development of the state. The authors offer some ideas about how higher education in the state might be better leveraged to revive cities and towns hurt by de-industrailization. Recommendations include partnerships between education and state and local leaders devoted to ensuring that colleges and universities play a role in the redevelopment of the communities they serve.
