Financing Alternative Education Pathways: Profiles and Policy 2005 - This report provides profiles of diverse alternative education programs nationwide. Each profile includes a program description, demographic and attendance/discipline data on youth served, information on funding sources, state and district policy on alternative education and Web and other resources. The Executive Summary sets forth the National Youth Employment Coalition’s principles for alternative education pathways and options and describes common elements of profiled programs, in such areas as leadership and professional development, multiple pathways to a credential, school/community collaborations and partnerships and challenges. The Executive Summary likewise proposes a set of state and local policy mechanisms – for example, defining alternative schools as programs instead of schools – that can help support alternative education programs.
