Document Number: 6966 Public Education and Black Male Students - According to estimates based on the most recent data from the National Center of Education Statistics, in 2003-04 55% of African American males did not receive diplomas with their cohort. Using the Schott Education Inequity Index – which highlights disparities in the quality of education provided to African-Americans by examining high school graduation rates of black and white non-Hispanic males – this report examines state and district performance in graduating African-American boys. In addition to identifying those states and cities with the largest disparities in graduating white and black male students, the report highlights "one remarkable group of districts that is successful with this most vulnerable group of America’s children."
