Document Number: 7058 A Closer Look at Charter Schools Using Hierarchical Linear Modeling - This report finds that after adjusting for student demographic characteristics, charter school mean scores in reading and math were lower – on average – than those for traditional public schools. The report also finds that in reading and math, average performance differences between traditional public schools and charters affiliated with a district were not statistically significant, while charters not affiliated with a district scored significantly lower on average than traditional schools. Also available is an executive summary. (Henry Braun, Frank Jenkins and Wendy Grigg, National Center for Education Statistics, August 2006)
