Document Number: 7106 Too Big To Be Seen: The Invisible Dropout Crisis in Boston and America - The Boston Public Schools district loses as many as a third of its students to dropouts and although other major cities have dropout rates approaching 50%, dropouts in Boston fare worse than almost anywhere else. The dropout crisis hurts all of society, as it fuels poverty, exacerbates conflicts in the community and raises public costs for health care, housing, law enforcement and social services. This report is meant to serve as both a primer on the dropout issue and a roadmap for the necessary work that lies ahead. (Boston Private Industry Council, May 2006)
