The process is challenging, however, and policymakers need to be aware of the various issues involved. With the generous support of the Joyce Foundation, ECS has created a series of four issue papers covering various aspects of diversified compensation systems. This fourth paper in the series reviews the use of diversified compensation systems as a means to encourage quality teachers to teach in at-risk schools by highlighting promising efforts and practices and areas that are not addressed in these systems.
