Document Number: 8142 School Meal Program Participation and Its Association with Dietary Patterns and Childhood Obesity - Data from the School Nutrition Dietary Assessment III Study was used to examine dietary patterns of both students participating and those not participating in school meal programs. One finding was that students participating in the School Breakfast Program ate more low-nutrient energy-dense baked goods and more calories at breakfast which spread calorie intake more evenly over the course of the day.
