Parallel Patterns: Teacher Attrition in Charter vs. District Schools - This report examines teacher turnover in charter schools and how it resembles and differs from teacher turnover in traditional public schools. The authors analyzed state and national data on the career trajectories and opinions of both charter and traditional public school teachers. Overall, the findings suggest that charter school teachers bring a strong commitment to their school's program and the mission but, because of the focus on serving disadvantaged students, they work under demanding conditions that, if left unattended by school leaders, put them at risk of moving schools or leaving the teaching profession.
