Document Number: 9017 A National Report Card on Protecting Children During Disasters - This document grades the U.S. states on four criteria of preparedness in case the community encounters a disaster. They look at the progress in meeting four basic standards for protecting children: (1) A plan for evacuating kids in child care--less than half meet this standard; (2) Reunifying families after a disaster--less than half meet this standard; (3) A written plan for children with special needs--less than 2/3 meet this standard; and (4) Evacuation plan for schools--ll do not meet this standard. Less than a fourth of the states meet all four basic preparedness standards. (Save the Children, November 2010)...Related Issues School Safety |
