Level of education and years of experience, the current salary determinants for most school districts, have not shown a correlation with student achievement. Any single measure of teacher quality will have some strengths and weaknesses. In Missouri, three programs offer some type of salary enhancement for teachers: Ladue School District's knowledge- and skills-based teacher compensation, the Teacher Choice Compensation Plan for St. Louis Public Schools and the Career Ladder.
