Document Number: 9475 Focus on Education for the Formerly Incarcerated - Roughly 65 million individuals in the United States have a criminal record. The overall educational attainment of inmates and formerly incarcerated is considerably below that of the general population. Less than 20% of state and federal prisoners have at least some college education. This Focus report looks at adults with criminal records as an underserved population who could benefit greatly from educational services, as would the state where they live.
