The Impact of Sure Start Local Programmes on Five Year Olds and their Families - This evaluation of Sure Start shows that program participants, at age 5, compared to similar children who did not participate in the program, were healthier and less likely to be overweight. The participants’ home environments were also more stimulating and less chaotic, according to parents’ reports. However, when it came to cognitive and self-regulation skills, Sure Start children were no better than the comparison group at age 5. (United Kingdom Department of Education, November 2010)...
