The Case for Pre-K in Education Reform - By highlighting the latest independent evaluations of state-funded pre-k programs around the country, this brief argues for the importance of including high-quality early education as a part of state and federal school improvement plans. The brief features new evidence from Oklahoma, Louisiana, Michigan, New Jersey, and New Mexico – beyond the longitudinal studies from 30 or more years ago – to show that high-quality pre-k boosts academic achievement, reduces grade retention, and lowers special education rates.
