: Measures of Classroom Quality in Pre-Kindergarten and Children's Development of Academic, Language and Social Skills - This article discusses a study that demonstrates how structural quality benchmarks as tracked by the National Institute for Early Education Research (NIEER), environmental quality ratings as measured by the Early Childhood Environment Rating Scale (ECERS), and the quality of teacher-child interactions as measured by CLASS, are related to outcomes for children. The study finds that teacher-child interactions hold the strongest relationship with children’s cognitive and social-emotional outcomes. It is noted that structural quality standards may have an indirect relationship with a child’s development by creating classroom environments that are more conducive to quality teacher-child interactions.
