Child Welfare: Federal Agencies Can Better Support State Efforts to Prevent and Respond to Sexual Abuse by School Personnel - Ways and means to prevent sexual abuse by school personnel vary widely across the states and from district to district. Among the variables are backround checks, awareness and prevention training and reporting requirements. Recommendations include joint efforts by the U.S. Departments of Education, Justice and Health and Human Services to disseminate information to the states and to identify a way to track abuse prevalence. Technology, Teen Dating Violence and Abuse, and Bullying - Technology's role in teen dating violence and abuse and teen bullying was studied in 10 northeastern schools. Researchers confirmed online abuse, harassment and bullying are common teen experiences. One in four dating teens is abused or harassed online or through texts by their partners. One in six is a victim of cyber bullying by peers. Online harassment and bullying is a red flag. Not only did students report high rates of cyber bullying and dating abuse, but also physical, emotional and sexual abuse offline and in person. (Janine M.
