Trends in High School Dropout and Completion Rates in the United States: 1972–2009 - This report updates a series of NCES reports on high school dropout and completion rates that began in 1988. The report includes national and regional population estimates for the percentage of students who dropped out of high school between 2008 and 2009, the percentage of young people who were dropouts in 2009, and the percentage of young people who were not in high school and had some form of high school credential in 2009. Data are presented by a number of characteristics including race/ethnicity, sex, and age. Annual data for these population estimates are provided for the 1972-2009 period. Public School Graduates and Dropouts from the Common Core of Data: School Year 2008–09 - This report presents a summary and state-by-state data associated with public high school graduation and dropout counts for the 2008-09 school year. (National Center for Education Statistics, May 2011)...

Implementing Graduation Counts: State Progress to Date--2010 - Five years after all of the U.S. governors made a commitment to implement a common, more reliable formula for calculating their state's high school graduation rate, progress is steady. A total of 48 states will report the common formula calculations. At this point 49 states now report they have the data systems needed to track individual students and more accurately calculate the high school graduation rate. Graduation rate goals have been set of 90% or higher in 21 states. (National Governors Association, December 2010)...

Gaining Ground on High School Graduation Rates in SREB States: Milestones and Guideposts - Report provides an in-depth update of states' graduation rates for all groups of students and details how states must begin using a new federal rate by 2011. Thirteen of the 16 SREB states have seen gains. The report calls for states to set statewide graduation rate goals on 90%, to provide additional help for schools in meeting more ambitious goals and for holding school accountable for gains.
