Diploma Options, Graduation Requirements, and Exit Exams for Youth with Disabilities: 2011 National Study - Trends and consequences of changes in diploma options for youth with disabilities were examined. Authors found that policies were being modified on a regular basis, graduation requirements tend to be increasing in rigor, and more youth with disabilities are taking high-stakes exit exams, but with accommodations. Recommendations include clarifying the implications of developing and granting alternative diploma options. (David R. Johnson, Martha L. Thurlow and Matthew J. A Longitudinal Study of Illinois High School Graduates with Disabilities: A Six-Year Analysis of Postecondary Enrollment and Completion - This report follows 7,598 Illinois public high school graduates with disabilities from the Class of 2002 on their journeys through postsecondary education. Students identified themselves as having at least one disability. The students’ higher education enrollment and completion patterns were collected over a six-year period—fall of 2002 through spring of 2008—and compared with the patterns of students without a disability. The results can be used to improve key transition points in the pipeline and reduce disparities that exist between students with disabilities and those without.
