Mapping State Proficiency Standards onto NAEP Scales: Results from the 2013 NAEP Reading and Mathematics Assessments - States vary widely in proficiency standards in fourth and eighth grade reading and mathematics according to this report, which compares state standards using the National Assessment of Educational Progress (NAEP) as the metric. Most state standards are within the NAEP Basic range, except in fourth grade reading, where most were below NAEP Basic. New York was the only state that had standards that fell within the Proficient range in grades and subjects.(V. Bandeira de Mello, et al., NCES, July 2015)...

The Nation's Report Card: Geography 2010--National Assessment of Educational Progress at Grades 4, 8 and 12 - The average score of fourth-graders on the NAEP geography assessment improved in 2010 compared to 2001. The scores for eighth- and twelfth-graders showed no statistically significant changes since 2001. (National Center for Education Statistics, 2011)...

The Nation's Report Card: U.S. History 2010 - In comparison to the last assessment in 2006, average scores in 2010 were higher at grade 8 and not significantly different at grades 4 and 12. At grade 4, the lowest performing students made the greatest gains from 1994 to 2010. Gains for Black students from 1994 to 2010 contributed to a narrowing of the achievement gaps at grades 4 and 8 while gains for Hispanic students were evident at grade 4. The Nation's Report Card: America's High School Graduates-- Results of the 2009 NAEP High School Transcript Study - The report presents information about the types of courses that high school graduates in the class of 2009 took during high school, how many credits they earned and the grades they received. Information on the relationships between high school coursetaking records and performance in mathematics and science on the NAEP is also included. A greater percentage of 2009 graduates completed more challenging curriculum levels than 1990 or 2005 graduates. (National Center for Education Statistics, April 2011)...
