Designs for Change (DFC) - Designs for Change (DFC) seeks to improve the nation’s 50 largest urban public school systems, beginning in Chicago. DFC applies world-class research and policy analysis to develop reforms which address the most difficult problems facing urban schools. Since its founding in 1977, DFC has conducted a number of studies analyzing urban educational reforms. Specifically, DFC has focused its attention on: 1) how a broad range of reforms were implemented, and 2) their impact. This web site presents the results of their work efforts....

Institute for Urban and Minority Education - This institute conducts research to better understand the experiences of diverse urban and minority group populations in the different institutions and situations which influence their development. This site provides information on the institute’s work, specifically, research and analysis policies; technical assistance and professional development opportunities; and programs for urban and minority youth....

National Institute for Urban School Improvement - The National Institute supports inclusive urban communities, schools and families to build their capacity for sustainable, successful urban education through dialogue, networking, technology, action research, information systems, alliance and consensus building. The institute collaborates with schools and local universities to create professional development schools for preservice and inservice activities. This site offers publications, e-news, a library and information about urban education events. It also operates the Urban Forum, an asynchronous online discussion area for visitors to share information, ask questions, connect with others, and discuss timely issues around inclusive education and urban schooling practices....

Council of Great City Schools (CGCS) - CGCS is a coalition of nearly 60 of the nation's largest urban public school systems, which works to promote urban education through legislation, research, media relations, instruction, management, technology and other special projects designed to improve the quality of urban education. The council offers legislative and managerial services to members and has task forces on bilingual education, finance, professional development, achievement gaps and leadership. This site provides information about CGCS members and partners, initiatives and projects, award programs, council positions, publications, press releases and reports....
