Intellectually Gifted Students Joint Study Committee Report - In 2003, in order to respond to constituent concerns about the effectiveness of the state’s gifted and talented program, the Tennessee legislature created a committee to study the issue and propose changes to rules and regulations in five interrelated areas. These included improving student eligibility criteria, education planning and evaluation and reevaluation methods, ensuring that gifted students’ needs were met in regular K-12 classrooms, that they had access to advanced instruction in higher grades and postsecondary institutions and that teachers were provided with pre-service, in-service and advanced training regarding the needs of gifted students.
