SREB Fact Book on Higher Education -- 2009 - The SREB Fact Book on Higher Education is one of the nation's most comprehensive collections of comparative data on higher education. For decades, state leaders, policy-makers, researchers and journalists have used the Fact Book to find useful data quickly and to learn more about long-term trends and developments in SREB states and across the nation. The Fact Book includes data on the population and economy, enrollment, degrees, student tuition and financial aid, faculty and administrators, revenue and expenditures. More than 90 tables provide detailed information on colleges and universities in SREB states, plus other regional and national data. Strengthening Transitions by Encouraging Career Pathways: A look at State Policies and Practices - Higher education and workforce development are increasingly linked in today's in today's knowledge-based economy. Studies show that in order to be successful, nearly everyone needs some kind of education and training beyond high school. This report uses specific state examples to discuss high school to postsecondary transition strategies, including graduation requirements, dual enrollment, curricular alignment, and transfer and articulation polices. Higher Education in Pennsylvania: A Competitive Asset for Communities - States are increasingly turning to postsecondary education to help improve their economies and the overall quality of life for their citizens. This report from the Brookings Institution summarizes activities of higher education institutions in Pennsylvania and examines their role in the community and economic development of the state. The authors offer some ideas about how higher education in the state might be better leveraged to revive cities and towns hurt by de-industrailization. Recommendations include partnerships between education and state and local leaders devoted to ensuring that colleges and universities play a role in the redevelopment of the communities they serve.
