Evaluation of Expeditionary Learning Middle Schools - The Expeditionary Learning (EL) model operates in 160 schools in 30 states using an interdisciplinary curriculum for students and professional development for teachers and school leaders. In the first rigorous study of EL, researchers found an extra five months of learning growth after two years in reading and an extra seven months of reading growth after three years. In math, EL students gained an extra three months of learning growth after two years and an extra 10 months after three years. (Mathematica, September 2013)...

Commonalities of Georgia's Successful Middle Schools - Recognizing the need to prevent high school dropouts, the Georgia Partnership for Excellence in Education commissioned research first on successful high schools and then on middle schools, since the seeds that produce high school failure are sown in grades five through eight. Successful middle schools were identified based on predetermined criteria. The data are compared and contrasted and analyses are documented and reported for use by Georgia educational leaders.
