The Nation's Report Card: Reading 2002 - The National Assessment of Educational Progress in reading was administered to a national sample of 4th, 8th and 12th graders in 2002. The results can be viewed either in a nationwide format or by state. The results indicate that while scores for 4th and 8th graders have risen slightly since the assessment was first given in 1992, scores for 12th graders fell five points during that same time.
