Welcome to the Education Commission of the States' Online Interactive Paraprofessional Database
Paraprofessionals play an important role in education. One of the outcomes of the No Child Left Behind Act (NCLB) of 2001 was a set of federal standards for paraprofessionals employed in Title I, Part A, funded schools, who provide instructional support in the classroom.
This report investigates each state's response to these requirements, in addition to highlighting what policy states have adopted to internalize these federal standards. Certification requirements were researched as well, though certification of paraprofessionals is not a direct condition of the NCLB act, several states have implemented such requirements.
Please feel free to explore our findings for Title I Instructional Paraprofessional qualifications and certification requirements, paraprofessional professional development programs and state assessments for paraprofessionals.
