Supplemental Services |
|
No Child Left Behind (NCLB) requires that schools failing to meet adequate yearly progress (AYP) for three or more consecutive years must offer students from low-income families supplemental services. According to the U.S. Department of Education, supplemental educational services may include academic assistance such as tutoring, remediation and other educational interventions. Supplemental educational services must be provided outside of the regular school day and must be high quality, research-based and specifically designed to increase student academic achievement. States are required to identify organizations, both public and private, that qualify to provide these services under established criteria. In addition, states must disseminate and maintain a list of providers and monitor their services. The link(s) at left show what is currently available in this section of the NCLB Issue Site.
