State Policy Responses to Low-Performing Schools Under NCLB: What is the Role of Charter Schools?

On May 21, 2004, the Education Commission of the States (ECS) convened a group of state policymakers in Denver, Colorado, to talk about the possible roles that charter schools can play in state responses to low-performing schools under the No Child Left Behind (NCLB) Act. There were 44 people from 15 state teams, as well as 11 individuals representing eight national organizations, in attendance. This meeting was part of a larger two-year project funded by the U.S. Department of Education. To see the project abstract, click here.
