Derek Peterson International Child/Youth Advocate, Institute for Community and Adolescent Resilience, North Dakota Derek Peterson is an international child/youth advocate and the voice of Integrative Youth Development™. He is dedicated to increasing the health and well being of children and youth worldwide by supporting them to create and sustain environments rich in developmental opportunities and conditions. Peterson has been called "America's Youth Development Rock Star" and his work is written into the No Child Left Behind legislation. In 2000, he was honored by the Alaska Prevention of Drug and Alcohol Community as the "Prevention Professional of the Year." In the following year, he was presented with the "Educator of the Year" by the Alaska Principal's Association.
